I hope that my viewers can
identify with a theme through their own experiences and emotions. If
not, I offer them the beauty of line, shape, color, value and
texture on the space of pictorial plane.”
My former experience as a potter has enabled me to use
similar glazing skills in creating surface textures. I usually pour
acrylics on a very wet surface, letting the physical properties of
one color float into another. When this is dry, I adjust surface
shapes, define areas, and begin to build toward my theme. This
technique enables me to articulate my inner visions.
In order to translate these inner feelings into visual
form I must balance spontaneity with continuous evaluation and
refinement of the composition. Applying the elements and principles
of design in an organized pictorial plane does this while providing
an avenue to express my spirit as an artist.
